Perler beads fun

I decided to go for some perler beads, just for fun.  It break a little bit from experimentation.  A change of pace.  It was a change to follow some pattern.  I also did some pattern free.  But here are the ones that were the best.

Experimenting with loom knitting

I experimented with loom knitting. I got an funny result:

I wanted not to knit in round but I got mixed up along the way.  This one is the end part.  I didn't close it right, well, not as I wanted.  So, this project would be good for one of the smaller Aliens in the movies of the same name.  Well, I better take it on the good side.  I find it better to miss it with a yarn that I din't like than with a gift.

On the second time, I got it better:

Well, it definitively look better.  It look like a sock but it is better than my first try.  There is hope for the knitting loom.  I get promissing result.  Now, after goofing around and getting result, I can scale up and get more fancy yarn.

Not love at first try

This is what I have done with the kumihimo.  Not much done but it is a start.  I must admit that this was not totally what I expected.  Usually, I relax and I find a beat.  Even if I start something new and unknown.  Well, it didn't go that way with the kumihimo.  Some time ago, I try it but was not successful.  Now, I got some instruction and I have figured it out.  I was able to do what you see above.  The problem: I don't connect with the process.  Yes, it is slow to do.  I did other projects that took time but it was project that got me hooked to.

Now, for the kumihimo, I struggle to get hooked.  It didn't happened.  Maybe it is that I had to turn the wheel and yarn, as the instruction ask.  I don't see myself turning around that wheel.  I think I can figure a way to do it without having to turn.  Would be a solution.  Don't know if it will work in the real world.  My mind and the reality are two world apart.

 So, for the moment, I ain't hooked with the kumihimo.   I don't know if it will change in the future.  I just find it a bit sad that I don't feel the call with this technique.  Usually, I like yarn crafting.  It feel strange to encounter something that I don't get hooked.  It bring mixed emotions.  It surprising to encounter something that I don't connect.  At the same time, I wonder if I had been selective in other techniques that I learned.  Is it that I stumble on other techniques that were well suited to me?

Well, technically, I got it right on one way to use it.  It is a fail because I feel forced to continue it.  I don't go to this one project to finish it.  I try it and it is the result.  I guess I get some conclusion on this experiemnt.  I may put is aside for a little while before returning to it, just as a confirmation of my first hunches.

Setting the material into place

Time to do,  I finally found the right metal wire to use with the 2 faced lacing kit.  I think that the ratio 2 faced lacinig and the wire are perfect:

Now, I will have to put that to practice.  I have to shape the wire to the desired shape.  I do not know if it will be easy or end up as I like.  The second problem: will it be easy to lace the 2 faced lace with that shaped wired?  I do not want to destroy the shape of the wire as I do the lacing.  What I think is not the same as reality.  I am a bit affraid to the reality and that it will end up badly.

Experimenting with the knitting loom kit

I got out the knitting loom kit.  Time to use it.  Finally, the projects were not that interesting even if I did the scarf:

What I found interesting, in the booklet is the various stitches that could be done.  I tried them all:

What I liked the most about this knitting loom are the groove in the pegs:

It is easiter when using the knitting tool.  So, it was a fun afternoon.  It can be quick knitting on the knitting loom!

Heart shaped frame

Crafting can bring ideas.  Children can have project that are inspisring.  Case in point, those heart shaped frame:

It was two children who made those frames.  I am now tempted to do the same, on a canvas, with different colours and minus the hearts.  Just looking at it, it makes me go in a kind of meditative trance.  Strange how it can happen sometimes.  I do not know if I will end up in a similar result but it is really opening a door.

This is why I find fun to do some crafting with children.  Their projects lead me somewhere else.  It lead me in wanting to try something that I didn't thougth of.

Another kit again

I think I should be excluded from some crafting store.  I found this:

It is a mini loom kit with four projects.  Now, I wonder if I will be interested in the projects.  I am a bit affraid that the booklet doesn't have some details.  For the rest, I have no fear.  There is the mini loom, there is the knitting loom tool and I have plenty of yarn.

I will be able to practice a lot if I want to.  In addition, the yarn can be knitted and unknitted pretty much at will.  So, if I am not happy with the result or if there is a problem, I will be able to start anew.  I just hope to have ideas for other projects than those included.

Now, I will have to stop myself from bying kit.  It can become expansive, in one hand.  On the other hand, I may be too willing to try new things.  By experience, it is not always successful.  I can be also facing a brainstorming session to find solution.  I do nto always want to think about solution.  Well, I am not always in the mood to find solution.

Button

I think I am becoming an button collector.  Those are nice one.  I find them a bit original.  Button flowers, I call them.  It is great that someone had thought of it.  I think that my favorites are the blue and yellow ones.

I do not know what I will do with them but I think they will be great for the next project aimed at a child.  Of course, they are a bit small but they are a bit bigger than some I had seen on children's clothings.

A fail first in knitting

Firsts are a big test.  I is easier to get an excuse for a first.  It help in the learning curve.  Now, I can also say that first can also show some failing of insstructions.  Sometimes, instructions are not as clear as it should be.  Well, for the details mainly.  I have done a bag with cable.  My intention was to use it for carrying some craft items around.  Well, it gives that result:

I had followed the instructions.  I thought it was done with circular needles, in round.  Well, the instructions was not clear on that details.  It was on the finishing phase that I discovered it.  Well, I put the strap anyway.  I don't want this one go to waste.  I will carry light objects with this one, on short distrance.

Before finishing up this one, I already knew that I wanted to do another one, in the hope that the second one would be more perfect.  Now, a bit wiser and experience under the belt, I know my errors and I will do it better on the second one.  I had already done the right amont of stitches.  I know, now, that I will do it row by row, not in circular.  So, the second one will be right!

Another kit that had a mess in the beginning

I have another kit that is about bracelet.  There is a kumihimo wheel in it (a little bit more on kumihimo here:https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kumihimo).  So, I wasn't sucessful with the kumihimo at my first try, a while back.  I decided to give it a second chance.  Here is the kit, first:

So, I prepared everything.  I looked at the booklet.  I prepared the yarn.  I chose what I wanted to do in the booklet.  It was showing that it was among my first try: it was a mess!:

After an evening of untangling, I set it right and manageable:

So, I followed the intructions and I seems to understanding the principle of this disk and how it work.  The only thing that bother me a little bit is the slow process.  Well, it may due that I am a bit slow.  Here what I had done:

I have not made a long length.  Well, I am a begninner and I have to spend a bit more time on this.  I will see what the end result will be.  Practice is the word!

Panic then thinking

Panic can be quickly happen when opening a kit.  I got a kit of 2 sided lacing kit.  I thought there would be everything needed to use the kit.  Wrong!  The project that I wanted to to didn't had metal thread to to the support for t he lacing part.  I wanted to do the bracelet.  Getting in a state of panic at first.  What I going to do?

So, as the panic was there, i set this kit aside.  Then, my mind started to work on it.  I do have wires, so I could use them to do what I need for this project.  Now, I just not sure if I have the right wire and if my idea will be translated into reality.  I still work on this one.  Success is still uncertain.

Nice Foxes

Kid crafts done by kids always give good results!  It is handcrafted, after all.  Good sense of colour too!  Both are great next to each other!  I think that having kids crafts outside school is a good thing.  The only thing that can be a bit complicated is to know what to do.  Only find good place (be it in a store that offer this or online) and choose the project!
